Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a lesson last?

Lessons are from 1.5 to 2 hours with at least 1-hour of ride time/person.

When is the best time to go?

For your first lesson, we want calm, flat water. Avoid sunny summer weekend afternoons. Start earlier in the day on weekends/holidays or book a weekday lesson.

Where will my lesson be?

Our go-to spot is on the north side of Cullaby Lake just south of Astoria, but if you have a body of water that you prefer, we can travel throughout the northern Oregon area for an additional fee. If your location has easy parking close to the water, safe, deep water, and easy access for launching the boards, let us know and we may be able to come to you.

Can my lesson ever get cancelled/postponed?

We will keep an eye on the forecast and communicate with you as your lesson-date approaches. If we feel that the wind will be too much or if there is inclement weather in the forecast, we will work with you to re-schedule.

Is it dangerous?

Like any watersport there are inherent dangers, but we provide helmets, life-vests, and expert instruction. Safety is our highest priority and we will teach you how to operate the boards in the safest possible manner as well as proper ways to fall/bail and re-board safely.

How old do I need to be?

Our minimum age for students is 13. Everyone must fill out a waiver, and anyone under 18 must have a parent fill out the waiver.

Can I bring someone that is not taking the lesson?

Absolutely. Depending on the location of your lesson, your observers may be pretty far away from the action, but we will do everything that we can so that your guests can watch you fly.

Is it difficult?

The boards do take some time to get used to, but if you are somewhat athletic and have a good sense of balance, we should be able to get you up and riding during the lesson. Worst-case you will be flying around on your stomach or knees, which is also a blast.

What do I need to bring?

Sunscreen and a towel is all you really need. We will provide everything else.
